NEW 52
For my latest and last commission (at least for a while) I have my first DC character, the New 52 Deathstroke! This character has been redesigned half a dozen times since his re-launch and his current design has taken a turn for the boring. So, the customer wanted the design based on the Hamner and Lee original sketches, as well as some of the Bisley cover art. The recipe is as follows:
Head/Helmet - Supertom Original Sculpt
Head (unmasked) - Arkham Origins with re-sculpted back of head and totally repainted
Torso, Upper arms, Thighs - ML Sabretooth
Lower Arms - ML Thor
Hands - ML Cable, modified to have trigger fingers
Lower Legs, Feet - LCBH SuperPatriot
Belt - Heavily modified and sculpted over Cap belt, and Bucky Cap accessories
Sword - Supertom Original (Glamdring as a frame then fully sculpted over and modified)
Nearly every inch of this figure was sculpted over or modified in some way. The shoulder pads were made from scratch and were built on hinges so they raise and lower with the arms. The sword attaches to his back with a very strong magnet and the handle is wrapped in real cloth. Because the sword is fully sculpted it is a bit heavy so it features a peg to snuggly fit in his right hand. The scale-mail was made of over a thousand, yes I said over a THOUSAND individual scales!
Finished him off with an airbrushed semi metallic paintjob (with a little dry brushing).
I have to rant for a minute. As much as everybody pines over the Toybiz era of Marvel Legends, the Sabretooth figure, while well sculpted, was absolute garbage in terms of quality. I had to tighten every joint, repair the shoulder on TWO figures. Yes, one completely broke, so then I replaced it and that broke as well. Oh and let’s not forget the spaghetti claws Wolverine he came packed with! Ugh! Ok, end of rant.
