I AM
Groot!
"Divine Majesty King Groot the 23rd, Monarch of Planet X, custodian of the branch worlds, ruler of all the shades, flora colossus!"
This being my first custom I wanted to challenge myself as much as possible. I used just about every customizing medium, trick, and method I could think of. I sanded, dremeled, sculpted, cast parts, created joints, used magnets, fully painted then finished him off with a clear coat for protection.
Base figure - MU Gigantic Battles Goliath and LOTR Treebeard
Head - Fully sculpted with use of left over Treebeard branching along with some made from scratch (if you can't tell which is which I'm not telling!) I also removed the peg in his head and created a disc/ball jointed neck so he can look up while crouched.
Arms and Legs - Fused the lower arms and legs together in order to keep the double jointed elbows and knees. I didn't like how restrictive Treebeard's legs were so I created a swivel joints at the shins and rocker ankles to give him more stability and better posability. Fully sculpted over everything except the shoulder and hip ball joints.
Torso - Fully Sculpted over to smooth out musculature and add in his baggy clothes look.
Pouches and Belts - Made from scratch, sculpted and cast. I added magnets to the ones on his waist so you can easily take them off so they won’t hinder any poses.
This took about 3 months and a whole lot of trial and error but he's still one of my favorite pieces.
